As often is the case with Cape Cod beaches, all facilities are closed at 4 pm (on a plus side, they stop collecting parking fees at that time). There is nice food shack offering chicken nuggets and lobster rolls, there are also well kept restroom/shower facilities. I should also mention a designated wind surfing area which adds to my beach entertainment, but also means that the wind here is quite strong at times. Parking lot at Kalmus is behind the grassy area so it is not immediately visible- an important factor for my beach relaxation. It is connected to a harbor-side shallow Memorial Beach that is popular with families. It is the least crowded so even on a summer weekend you can usually find a parking spot. My favorite Nantucket Sound beach is Kalmus Beach in Hyannis.

So these have been our “go to” beaches during our weekends on Cape Cod to enjoy our long swims. These beaches look very much like the Black Sea beaches we used to vacation on as kids in the former Soviet Union.

Some of the best public beaches in this category are Craigville Beach in Barnstable, Old Silver Beach in Falmouth and Seagull Beach in West Yarmouth. What we love the most about them : warm ocean water, beach walks they also remind us of Black Sea beaches of our childhood.Ĭape Cod’s Nantucket Sound have the warmest (if not of the most beautiful color) ocean water that reaches into lower and sometimes mid 70s degrees in the heat of the summer.
